INSPIRING ERA, an EU project that works with the European Commission to support the implementation of the European Research Area (ERA) Policy Agenda, is organising an online event on research security. The event will take place on Wednesday, 25 November 2026, from 14:00 to 16:00 CET (16:00–18:00 Türkiye time).
The event will look at how research security is being put into practice across Europe while safeguarding openness, academic freedom and international collaboration. It will address three key questions:
- How can European research remain open and collaborative while responding to growing security risks?
- What does proportionate research security look like in practice?
- How can researchers and institutions be supported to navigate an increasingly complex environment?
The event will bring together policy, national, institutional, funder and expert perspectives on risk assessment, institutional support and decision-making. Participants will hear about current European developments and practical approaches from across the research system. The event will close with a panel discussion on implementation challenges, emerging lessons and future needs.
Researchers, representatives of universities and research organisations, international relations offices and research support units with an interest in research security are warmly invited to attend.
